  9. Q: Is the new NeXT keyboard compatible with the older cube and software?\

The new keyboard (Mfg Part # 2122  Serial number prefix ABP5xxxxxx) has international key labels and L-shaped RETURN key.   You should use software Release 2.0 with the new keyboard.  If you use Release 1.0a with the new keyboard, the "|" pipe and "\\" backslash keys will not work.   The new keyboard works fine on either an 030 or 040-based system if you are using software Release 2.0. \

A: The old keyboard (Mfg Part # 192   Serial number prefix AAExxxxxxx) has the American key labels and the smaller RETURN key.  The old keyboard will work with the 2.0 system software and the 030 or 040 based system.  The pipe and backslash keys can be accessed by the appropriate keys on the numeric keypad.\

A: You can differentiate the monitors by the serial number prefix, or even easier, the new monitor has a built-in microphone in the bottom left corner of the bezel.  The newer monitor is approximately 10 lbs lighter and has a smaller stand.  Either monitor work with 030 or 040-based products, but an external microphone is needed with the older monitor if you wish to make sound recordings.\
